Leonardo the Terrible Monster

We read this book back a few weeks ago and the children are still talking about it.  I had the children graph whether they liked or disliked the book.  Click on a graph to make it bigger to read.  Have your child interput the data with you.

Family Monsters

I have enjoyed seeing all the Family Monsters the children brought in.  Everyone was so excited to share their monsters with their friends.  I can tell that you all put a lot of thought and work into creating your family monsters.  Great teamwork everyone!

Besides the family monsters you will see the the children enjoyed being the illustrators of the green monster from the book Go Away Big Green Monster. They were busy creating their visual representations of the green monster at the art center,  the paint easel, and electronically on the tablet.

Wayne County Fair

The Wayne County Fair has come and gone for another year. I am sure if your family attended the fair you all had a great time. The children have sure enjoyed talking about the fair. I have had a lot of fun checking over the “fair homework”. Below you will find a Smilebox I made about the Wayne County Fair that I have been showing to the children at school.  I hope you enjoy watching with your child at home.

We also have been reading a book that I made about the fair.  Please feel free to print it off for your child and you to read.  This is a first of many books that I will be putting on the blog for you to print off it you would like to do so.

Snap and a Book Review

The students love to read this word!

Here are the results of our first book review.  By looking at the graphs you can see that the book Five Little Monkeys Sitting in the Tree is a very popular book in our classroom.  The children had to come up to the Mimio Board and graph their answer.  They also had to give me a reason why they chose their answer.  If you don’t already have this book at home try checking it out from the library to read with your child.

Afternoon Class

One of the children’s favorite videos is Five Little Monkeys Swinging from the Tree.  It is based on the book.  It has provided us with the opportunity to talk about having different versions of strories.  There is the video so you can watch and sing along with your child.

Science Thursdays

We have been observing a caterpillar in our room for the since We had a lot to observe with our caterpillars this past week.  On Tuesday we watched the caterpillars eatting constantly.  We moved them into a bigger container.  On Wednesday morning we noticed that two of the caterpillars were hanging upside down from the twigs that we put in their container.  On Thursday when we looked the two caterpillars had transformed into chrysalises. We are looking forward to see what happens next!

We Love Our School Shoes

Pete the Cat is back—and this time he’s rocking in his school shoes. Pete discovers the library, the lunchroom, the playground, and lots of other cool places at school. And no matter where he goes, Pete never stops moving and grooving and singing his song . . . because it’s all good. (Summary from HarperCollins Childrens Books.)

Pete the Cat loves his shoes and so do we.  We had fun with a guessing game about our school shoes.

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom

The following is a book review of Chicka Chicka Boom Boom from Preschool Rocks:

The naughty little lower case letters get themselves into trouble when they all try to fit into the coconut tree. All of the lowercase letters are too heavy for the coconut tree and they all fall out. The poor little letters have skinned knees, black eyes, and a loose tooth. Luckily the uppercase letters come running to the rescue and kiss everything better, but what will the mischievous little a do when the moon come up?

Sounds like a great book!  It’s another thumbs up book here in our classroom!  This book has served as a great starting point for me to start collecting baseline information on what letters each child in our classroom knows.  This information will allow me to plan fun, exciting activities for each of my students to meet their individual needs when it comes to learning their letters.

Volcano Experiment

We read the book Vinnie Volcano this week.   There is a science experiment at the end of the book that showed us how to make an erupting volcano.  During free choice time the children had fun getting to try out the experiment.  Watch the following video with your child and then gather up the needed ingredients and have your child show you how to make an erupting volcano.
